Consultation with the Consulting Detective -
The hardest thing for the young Detective to handle is their own ego.
You cannot work alone, you cannot know everything, you have not seen
everything. You must seek other qualified opinions and viewpoints.
One of my mentors was the great Greg Parkinson of the WPBPD, a Crime
Scene pioneer, a true genius. So ask away, just the opinion of Henry
Maki.

Example Question: Hey CD what is your most important investigative
tool?
“In one word it is ‘Timeline’. As an investigator you must have this
thing hammered out flat, you must know every minute of it. And, odds
are, if you are squishy on a spot THAT is exactly where you need to
focus. All your interviews, notes, video just support the Timeline.”
Thanks and good luck.

Question: Hey CD I work in the hottest state in the world and I am
going to fall out from heatstroke. What can I do?
“Assuming this is an emergency. You need to drop that body
temperature immediately you can’t be incapacitated. What you do, find
a nearby 7-11 or equivalent, call out for a break. Tell the clerk you
need to go in the cooler. Sit down, re-hydrate with electrolytes,
after about 10 minutes you are back in the fight.”
Thanks and good luck.
